CERT-In Participated in APCERT International Incident Handling Drill 2006
On 19 th December, 2006 Asia Pacific Computer Emergency Response Team (APCERT) conducted APCERT International Incident Handling Drill, 2006. This annual drill was aimed to test the timeliness and response capability of leading Computer Incident Response Teams (CSIRTs) from Asia Pacific region. This year, 15 security Teams from 13 economies ( Australia, Brunei, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Chinese Taipei and Vietnam) participated in the APCERT Drill 2006. CERT-In actively participated in the APCERT Drill, 2006.
The drill focused on handling compromised websites hosting malacious code purposefully designed for using in Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. The objective of the drill was to enable participating teams to exercise Incident Response Handling arrangements locally and internationally to mitigate the impact of ongoing Internet-based attacks. In this year's simulated scenario a number of global websites were compromised and used as a vehicle to spread malicious software which ultimately allowing for infected computers to join a massive DDoS attacks on popular e-commerce websites located in Asia Pacific region.
Some of the participating national CERTs organized the drill with the local Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and security vendors also. CERT-In organized the security drill with local ISPs like BSNL, ERNET, STPI, NIC, VSNL, Sify etc and security vendors like TrendMicro.
CERT-In successfully completed the security drill scenario with the help of local ISPs and security vendors.
