Missing Authorization vulnerability in WPForms plugin for WordPress

Overview

A vulnerability has been reported in WPForms Plugin for WordPress which allows unauthorized modification of data due to a missing capability check.

Target Audience:
All end-users/Administrators of WordPress sites running WPForms Plugin.

Risk Assessment:
High risk of financial loss and disruption of services.

Impact Assessment:
Potential impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the system.

Description

WPForms is a popular drag-and-drop form builder plugin for WordPress that allows users to easily create various type of forms for their websites such as surveys, polls, order forms, and payment forms.

This vulnerability exists in WPForms plugin for WordPress due to a missing capability check on the wpforms_is_admin_page function. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow an authenticated attacker with Subscriber-level access and above, to perform unauthorized refunds and cancel subscriptions.

Solution

  • Update the WPForms plugin to version 9.1.2.2 or later
