Privilege Escalation Vulnerability in SolarWinds Dameware

  • Dameware Mini Remote Control versions prior to 12.3.2

Overview

A privilege escalation vulnerability has been reported in SolarWinds Dameware which could allow a local attacker to gain elevated privileges on the affected system.

Target Audience:
All organizations and individuals using SolarWinds Dameware.

Impact Assessment:
Potential for local privilege escalation, which may lead to complete system compromise.

Risk Assessment:
High risk of data theft, full system compromise.

Description

SolarWinds Dameware is a remote support and access tool designed for IT professionals, help desk teams and system administrators. It enables users to securely connect to remote systems, resolve technical issues, manage Active Directory, and provide secure support to end users.

A vulnerability exists in SolarWinds Dameware due to misconfigured permissions during installation. A Local attacker with low-privileged access could exploit this vulnerability by placing malicious code in a trusted folder on the affected system.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow a local attacker to gain elevated privileges on the affected system.
