CISCO ONS multiple vulnerabilities

Overview

CISCO ONS contains multiple vulnerabilities, causing denial of service attack and unauthorized access.

Description

The Cisco ONS Optical Networking System is a multi-service optical transport platform optimized for metropolitan network.

Multiple vulnerabilities have been discovered in CISCO ONS 15000 series which could allow attackers to launch denial of service attacks. The vulnerabilities can be exploited by malformed IP/ICMP/TCP/UDP/SNMP packets. By crafting a packet an attacker can cause XTC, TCC/TCC+/TCC2, and TCCi/TCC2 control cards to reset. The vulnerabilities may even allow attacker to gain access.

Another authentication bypass vulnerability has been uncovered in Cisco Transaction Language 1 TL1 login interface. This could allow attacker gain access to ONS devices if the default account, CISCO15, contains a blank password.

Solution

Update software as suggested by CISCO.
