    Overview

    A vulnerability exists in Microsoft IIS WebDAV XML Handler, which can cause a Denial of Service attack.

    Description

    WebDAV is an industry standard extension to the HTTP specification, used for authorized users to remotely add and manage content on a Web server. The existing vulnerability in IIS WebDAV XML is caused due to the WebDAV XML Message Handler. WebDAV does not limit the number of attributes that can be specified per XML-element in WebDAV requests. 



    This vulnerability could be exploited by an attacker to consume all available memory and CPU resources by sending a special crafted XML document.

    Solution

    Apply appropriate patch as mentioned in the Microsoft Security Bulletin MS04-030
