CISCO IOS denial of service vulnerability

Overview

A Denial of Service vulnerability exists in the DHCP Service of CISCO IOS.

Description

A vulnerability has been uncovered in CISCO devices running affected IOS versions with DHCP service enabled. As a result of this vulnerability, the DHCP Server is unable to handle specially crafted DHCP packets resulting in Denial of Service condition.

This vulnerability affects DHCP enabled IOS devices even if the DHCP server is not configured.

Workaround

Disable the DHCP service by issuing the command
no service dhcp .

Solution

Upgrade IOS version as suggested by vendor.
