    • Overview

    A remote code execution vulnerability exists in the way Internet Explorer instantiates COM objects that are not intended to be instantiated in Internet Explorer. An attacker could exploit the vulnerability by constructing a malicious Web page and entice a user to visit this web page.

    Description

    This vulnerability is caused due to a memory corruption error when the certain COM objects are instantiated from a web page in the Internet Explorer as Active X.

    Some of the vulnerable COM objects are:

    Blnmgrps.dll, Ciodm.dll, Comsvcs.dll, Danim.dll, Htmlmarq.ocx,Mdt2dd.dll , Mpg4ds32.ax, Msadds32.ax,Msb1esen.dll, Msdds.dll , Msdtctm.dll, Msoeacct.dll, Msosvfbr.dll, Mswcrun.dll, Netshell.dll, Ole2disp.dll , Outllib.dll, sisdecd.dll, Qdvd.dll, Repodbc.dll, Shdocvw.dll, Shell32.dll, Soa.dll, Srchui.dll, Stobject.dll,Vdt70.dll, Vmhelper.dll, Wbemads.dll

    This vulnerability could be exploited by an attacker by creating a malicious web page and enticing users to visit that page. Successful exploitation may allow remote code execution or cause Internet Explorer to crash.

    Solution

    Apply appropriate security update mentioned in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS05-052
