Microsoft Windows Media Player 11 AIFF Parsing Divide-By-Zero Denial of service Vulnerability

    • Overview

    A Vulnerability has been reported in Microsoft Windows Media Player 11 .This vulnerability could be exploited by an attacker to cause denial of service.

    Description

    The vulnerability in Microsoft Windows Media Player 11 is caused when processing malformed AIFF Audio Interchange File Format files. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by creating a malformed AIFF file and entice a user to open the same. Opening this malformed file will result in divide-by-zero error and crashing of application causing Denial of Service.

    Note: It may be noted that exploits for this vulnerability are available on Internet.



    Workaround

  • Exercise caution while opening AIFF .aiff , .aif files from un trusted sources
