Overview
A directory traversal vulnerability has been reported in the VMware products, which could be exploited by unauthenticated remote attacker to retrieve arbitrary files via unspecified vectors from affected servers to expose sensitive information stored on the server.
Description
This vulnerability exists because of improper validation of user-supplied input. An unauthenticated, remote attacker could exploit this issue to retrieve arbitrary files from the affected servers underlying root file system by submitting URL encoded HTTP GET requests that traverse out of the affected subdirectory.
Workaround
- Disable Security Server
- Block directory traversal attempts
Solution
Upgrade to version 5.1.2 or 4.6.2.
