Overview
Two remote code execution vulnerabilities have been reported in Microsoft Excel which could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the targeted user.
Description
1. Global Free Remote Code Execution Vulnerability in Excel
(
CVE-2014-6360
)
A remote code execution vulnerability exists in Microsoft Excel due to improper handling of objects in memory while processing excel documents. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by enticing the user to open a specially crafted file in an affected version of Microsoft Excel. Processing of the document could cause the application to free memory that is already in use resulting in memory corruption. Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary code in the context of the current logged-in user.
2. Invalid Pointer Remote Code Execution Vulnerability in Excel
(
CVE-2014-6361
)
A remote code execution vulnerability exists in Microsoft Excel due to improper handling of objects in memory while processing excel documents. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by convincing the user to open a specially crafted file in an affected version of Microsoft Excel. Processing of the document could cause invalid memory operations resulting in memory corruption. Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary code in the context of the current logged-in user.
