Denial of Service Vulnerability in ISC Bind

  • ISC BIND versions 9.20.0 through 9.20.8
  • ISC BIND versions 9.21.0 through 9.21.7

Overview

A vulnerability has been reported in ISC Bind which could allow an attacker to cause an assertion failure resulting in denial-of-service conditions.

Target Audience:
All end-user organisations and individuals using ISC BIND.

Impact Assessment:
High risk of Denial of Service (DoS), authoritative servers and resolvers are affected by this vulnerability.

Description

ISC BIND is an open-source software that implements the Domain Name System (DNS) protocols for resolving domain names to IP addresses.

This vulnerability exists in ISC Bind due to improper handling of an invalid value in the algorithm field of Transaction Signature (TSIG) protocol. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending crafted messages to cause an assertion failure.

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow the attacker to cause denial of service condition on the targeted system.
