Multiple Vulnerabilities in MongoDB Products

Software Affected

  • MongoDB PHP Driver versions prior to 1.21.12, 2.1.12, and 2.5.5
  • MongoDB Server versions 8.0 prior to 8.0.34, 8.3 prior to 8.3.13, and 9.0 prior to 9.0.4
  • MongoDB Go Driver 1.17.10 and prior, and 2.x versions prior to 2.9.2
  • MongoDB libmongocrypt versions prior to 1.20.5

Overview

Multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in MongoDB products which could allow an attacker to cause memory corruption, disclose sensitive information or cause denial of service (DoS) conditions on the targeted system.

Target Audience:
Users and administrators of MongoDB Server, MongoDB PHP Driver, MongoDB Go Driver, and MongoDB libmongocrypt.

Risk Assessment:
High risk of denial of service (DoS) conditions, memory corruption, and disclosure of sensitive information.

Impact Assessment:
Potential for denial of service (DoS) conditions, memory corruption, and disclosure of sensitive information.

Description

MongoDB is a NoSQL database platform that provides data storage, querying, aggregation, and application connectivity through language-specific drivers and supporting libraries.

These vulnerabilities exist in MongoDB Server, MongoDB PHP Driver, MongoDB Go Driver and MongoDB libmongocrypt due to uncontrolled recursion in BSON decoding, missing authorization checks, improper handling of collection validator expressions, missing BSON array-length validation, integer overflow and improper memory management.

A remote attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by sending specially crafted BSON data, submitting specially formed aggregation pipelines, or providing malformed key documents to the targeted system.

Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow an attacker to cause memory corruption, disclose sensitive information or cause denial of service (DoS) conditions on the targeted system.
