Authentication Bypass Vulnerability in OpenSSH

Overview

A vulnerability has been reported in OpenSSH which could allow a remote attacker to bypass password authentication mechanism on the targeted system.

Target Audience:
All organizations and individuals using OpenSSH.

Risk Assessment:
High risk of service disruption.

Impact Assessment:
Potential for High risk of denial of service (DoS) conditions.

Description

OpenSSH is a SSH protocol 2.0 implementation and includes sftp client and server support.

This vulnerability exists in OpenSSH due to authentication bypass. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending an unusually long password to the targeted system running OpenSSH on Linux with musl libc and PAM disabled.

Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow an attacker to gain unauthorized access and elevate privileges on the targeted system.
